Active both in winter and in the non-snow seasons, the Ngauruhoe Ski Club membership is a social one. With a mix of families, younger singles and the keen old guard, Nguaruhoe Ski Club has something to offer skiers of any age group and ability.
Racing is at the core of club activities, with club ski and snowboard races organised for all ages. The Rossignol Ngauruhoe Ski Club Trophy Race is the largest ski race by participation in the southern hemisphere and the pre-eminent interclub race on Mt Ruapehu, keenly contested by most of the on mountain clubs. The after race party is as eagerly anticipated as the race results!
In addition, our annual Mid-winter Christmas dinner, Adults week, childrens race weeks and other themed parties round out the exciting winter season calendar.
Activities do not stop just because the snow has melted and members are offered activities in summer as well as winter. Summer events organised and run by members include Film nights, events at SnowPlanet, cycle rides and a club summer barbeque ensure the socialising continues in the off season.
Whilst in residence at one of the two modern and comfortable lodges, every member is assigned a housekeeping duty to keep the club running smoothly and share the workload.
Membership is by invitation from a current senior member, seconded by another senior member, and requires the invitee(s) to complete work parties over the summer months. Invitees must be 18 years or over to qualify for senior membership, and there are also Family, Junior and Veteran membership categories. Ngauruhoe is a diverse club for keen skiers and snowboarders, and we welcome enquiries from anyone interested in becoming a member of an active and social ski club.
